End the inhumane treatment of cats in traps

End the inhumane treatment of cats in traps
The issue
Each day around the Fraser Coast region, cats are caught in traps that are created to be humane. There are strict laws governing the treatment of these animals once captured and these traps are designed so that the community can safely take them to shelters to be rehomed. It is devestating to see these traps that were created to encourage humane treatment of these animals being misused by despicable people around the Fraser Coast region.
A quote from the RSPCA states the following about our area:
"It is actually legal to place a humane cat trap on your own property, as long as it is checked regularly, it is placed in the shade and the animal is immediately taken to a place of care (which can mean an animal shelter, pound or vet)."
As stated by the Fraser Coast Rescue:
"Therefore, the person in Point Vernon is not following the local law, the person trapping cats on Endeavour Way in Eli Waters and drowning them, is not following the local law, and the person in Pacific Haven who is shooting the cats he traps, is also breaking the law. Until the community stands up for animal rights and tells local councillors this is not acceptable, this type of abuse of animals will continue"
We are taking a stand and we are saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We are a community, and if you have compassion in your heart you can make the change.
We are calling on you, the Fraser Coast Council to take action on the people mentioned above and create stricter fines and regulations to overlook the use of cat traps by the community. WE WILL NOT TAKE ANY MORE.
