BBC Three will officially leave our TV sets as a channel on Monday evening/early Tuesday morning - almost two years after our campaign launched and 13 years after it launched on TV. Obviously it is deeply disappointing that we failed in the aim of keeping the channel in its current form, but I still have faith the online-only launch next week will be an exciting one for the BBC.
While the reasons for keeping BBC Three on television in its current form have been well documented, I'm sure you would agree that what would be disastrous would be the full closure of BBC Three because of poor ratings or the cuts to the BBC. That would be bad for young adults, creativity, and the sector, and so I'm hopeful people will continue to support the service despite the end result not being one we anticipated.
Lots of our favourites are returning to the online-only BBC Three: Murder in Successville, People Just Do Nothing, Cuckoo. Plus new content like more documentaries from Stacey Dooley and dramas like Murdered By My Father and Thirteen. While it will all be a bit more iPlayer-centric the campaign has ensured lots of the good programming will get an airing on BBC1 and BBC2 too, and it'll be on-demand on Sky, Cable and Freeview too. ITV2 have also gained the likes of Family Guy and a new series starts shortly, Sky 1 is picking up new Don't Tell The Bride, and we expect BBC Four to show more of the festival coverage I spend most of my Summer weekends watching.
Creative industries across the world will be looking to see whether the BBC makes BBC Three a success, so fingers crossed they can pull it off, that's why I've avoided doing interviews putting the boot in ahead of BBC Three's closure.
What we will do is continue to put pressure on the BBC over BBC Three in months to come, because we want it to be a success too, but we equally want it to do what the viewers want too. In the meantime make the most of the final few days of BBC Three in its current form, and keep in touch with us on Facebook and Twitter.
