I pledge to NOT vote for the sponsors of Bill HB 144.

The Issue

A bill similar to the "Petland Bill" in OH has come to GA. HB 144 is sponsored by (1) Ehrhart, Earl 36th (2) McCall, Tom 33rd (3) Kirby, Tom 114th (4) Holmes, Susan 129th (5) Jasperse, Rick 11th (6) Henson, Michele 86th.
A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Article 1 of Chapter 11 of Title 4 of the O.C.G.A., relating to general provisions relative to animal protection, so as to regulate the retail sale of dogs and cats in this state; to provide for definitions; to provide that dogs and cats transported into this state for sale or offered for sale in this state shall be protected against certain diseases and parasites; to provide for examinations and certifications by veterinarians; to provide for certain rights of purchasers of dogs and cats; to provide for notices and representations to purchasers; to provide for the quarantine of dogs and cats suspected of carrying disease; to restrict certain local regulation; to require regulatory consistency; to provide for a short title; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

Georgia residents do not want or need this bill. This bill will allow pet stores (such as Petland) to continue to defraud and deceive consumers while also supporting inhumane breeding facilities of pets. There has been grass root efforts in GA for several years now trying to work on local legislation to help protect consumers and pets alike which is why this preemptive bill has been proposed to stop these efforts.

Local legislation is designed to protect consumers from the activities of pet stores like Petland who operate by selling animals that are produced and bred in commercial facilities. Due to the way that this business model works during my personal investigation I have uncovered alleged illegal activities, fraud, the sales of sick pets some of which have died shortly after purchase, and the deception of what they support. This bill is designed to stop local legislation that is designed to stop this.

I personally DO NOT support HB 144. It states it is a animal welfare law but I know every person and organization concerned about animal welfare will NOT support this bill and we will openly protest the support of this bill and it's potential passage.

If the sponsors of this bill continue to sponsor it I will personally NOT vote for you. I ask that anyone who does not support this bill also not vote for any sponsor of this bill.

Please do not support HB 144. It isn't about animal welfare.
