To reinforce a proposal to implement a safe crosswalk on US 9
The Issue
Every day, I witness the struggles faced by residents of our community in attempting to cross US Route 9 in New Jersey, particularly between Cedar Bridge Road and the Wawa. The absence of an ADA compliant crosswalk on this busy stretch of road not only limits the mobility of our community members but also poses a significant risk to pedestrian safety.
The only available options to cross this bustling road are a perilous half-mile trek south or an exhausting mile and a half north. This disconnect not only undermines pedestrian activity but discourages individuals from utilizing public transportation, like the nearby NJ Transit bus system, and limits community engagement overall.
In recent years, I have watched Route 9 grow increasingly congested, further exacerbating these issues. We have all seen the firsthand impact of this situation—the isolation of elderly community members, families fearing for their safety, and a general loss of autonomy. With an increasing traffic volume and high rates of speed, the need for a safe and accessible crosswalk is more urgent than ever.
A new crosswalk would serve everyone—from students needing a safe route to school, commuters connecting to public transit, residents going about their daily lives, to local businesses looking to attract more pedestrians. This development is essential not only for safety but to foster a sense of community engagement.
Join me in urging the local town council to prioritize the construction of a safe, ADA compliant crosswalk across Route 9 at the specified location. This initiative is more than a proposal to improve pedestrian infrastructure; it is a step towards reconnecting our community and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all.
All signatures garnered will aid a proposal for the local town council to implement a safe, ADA compliant crosswalk.
Please sign this petition to show your support for safer streets and a more connected community.
