To inspire people to help native wildlife

To inspire people to help native wildlife
The issue
After our recent trip to Rotoroa Island, we saw firsthand how important it is to ensure all native habitats and environments survive and thrive. It is important to inspire others to take action to conserve our native environment and wildlife for future generations. Pests like dogs and rats are eating eggs and killing native wildlife. This is why we need more traps in Aotearoa to help them. What does conservation mean? Conservation means to protect and preserve native wildlife and resources for the future. Seeing the takahe chick at Rotoroa Island was an unforgettable experience. I believe it is essential that we protect our native wildlife as it is special to Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Protecting Native Birds from Predators
While we were on Rotoroa Island they told us that Rotoroa Island is a predator-free island. Unfortunately, not every place is a predator-free island which is why we are losing native wildlife and native birds by the second. Their population is decreasing rapidly and consequently, we are going to lose our native birds like the kiwi and takahe. I believe we all must work together to place more traps all over New Zealand. A lot of places are predator-free and we can re-grow kiwi’s population. We need to get rid of pests because they eat kiwis. Also, other pests like the possums eat native plants that kiwis rely on for their food source.
Conserving Natural Habitats
Native birds die by habitats because it is not in safe areas. That’s why I believe if we make more places like rotoroa island are native wildlife would sky rocket in population rapdily. We should put nests for kiwi or animals in a safe ecosystem like rotoroa island and Subantarctic Island. I also think we need to put more traps in Aotearoa so that we can maybe get more unique animals. We already have the kiwi and takahe. It would be great if we could get more. We should all work together to make Aotearoa New Zealand what it is really for.
Appreciation for Native Wildlife
We appreciate are native wildlife because it is very special to get a native bird like the kiwi and takahe. Every year at least 1,400 kiwis die and 1% of that 1,400 kiwis die of starvation because pests are destructive. They destroy native plants that kiwis rely on for their food. We take care of them because we feed them and put them in safe areas where there are not many pests. We take care of them because no one can kill them but if someone does kill a kiwi or takahe they can face 2 years behind bars or pay a fine of $100,000 dollars.
Conclusion
We need to work together to help these unique birds so they live longer and our future generations can also appreciate our native birds. There are only around 15,000 kwis left if that could go to like 100,000 that would be great. Also that would be like 1% of New Zealand's population. That's why we should come together to digress pest population and ingress takahe and kiwi’s population.
