To create the Killester Heritage Garden at the green at Abbeyfield, Killester.

The Issue

We wish to create a heritage garden in honour and recognition of the Irish WW1 ex-servicemen who settled in the Killester Garden Village, and also to recognise the estate itself as the largest Irish WW1 ex-servicemen housing estate in Ireland with 289 houses in total. The Heritage Garden will also feature the wider history of the Killester area on the interpretation signage including Killester House and the Demesne.

We wish to honour the men from Killester who also died in WW2 at this heritage garden.

Our community celebrates its centenary of completion in 2023 and centenary of the first families movig into the Killester Garden Village, this will be a great opportunity to mark the centenary and for all in the community to celebrate this event in an inclusive way and in the spirit of peace and reconciliation.

The location of the proposed garden is the centre of the green space at Abbeyfield, Killester, we are hoping to have an Irish tree, flowers, seating and a plaque. The will also be a much needed public amenity for all in the community and for biodiversity, inclusion and diversity in the community and being a amenity for young and old.

We are currently seeking final approval from Dublin City Council for the garden.
