The Tennessee state government has a responsibility to be accountable and transparent with our taxpayer dollars. Representative Gloria Johnson is still without a proper office or an assistant at the Tennessee Capitol because she was the only member to vote against the House Speaker, Cameron Sexton.

She has been assigned a small conference room rather than an office comparable to the other 98 members of the legislature, while a comparable member office sits empty across the hall. She’s also been without an assistant since the first week of April.

Democratic Rep. Gloria Johnson has been asking Republican Speaker Sexton for a comparable office since January. He spent thousands of taxpayer dollars adding a space for an assistant to the tiny office, and the addition is about the size of a jail cell. It is so small they had to reverse the door to open into the hallway because the door could not open inward without hitting the desk. Remember, a member office sits empty, for free, across the hall from this makeshift office.

I am Gloria Johnson’s constituent, and I am creating this petition because I expect equal and fair treatment from the State of Tennessee’s government. My district’s elected representative should have the same resources as every other elected official at the Tennessee Capitol, and we elected her to represent us. Voters matter. One cannot help but wonder if Representative Johnson is being treated unfairly because she is a woman, not only because she is a Democrat.

Please sign this petition demanding that GOP Speaker Cameron Sexton and the rest of the Tennessee State Legislature make sure that my state representative receives fair and equal treatment, that she is assigned the proper resources to represent her constituents that elected her, and that Speaker Cameron Sexton apologize to her for his unfair treatment to her and the unfair treatment of her constituents. Let’s show the Tennessee GOP who we are as Tennesseans. We are resilient. We do not give up. Let’s show the Tennessee GOP the consequences for playing petty games with our elected representatives and creating barriers that obstruct our representation.
