Pennsylvania courts in Tioga county need to enforce the current humane laws
The Issue
Pennsylvania humane laws were revamped and updated in 2017. Governor Wolfs Libres Law (HB1238) became law in June and was enforced in August of 2017. Most Current courts are following this guideline. Tioga county court, along with DA Krista Deats and Judge Wheeler are allowing too many plea bargains and imposing any type of “punishment and fines” they want. They look to be following previous guidelines. We the people, ask the court, DA and Judge to follow current laws, punitive guidelines and jail, where is allowed and expected under the current laws. Several recent cases in our local courts have probation and minuscule fines imposed when The current laws call for $1000 to $5000 fines and jail time.
Our local court and judge is imposing $25 - $300 fines. This is not acceptable nor in accordance with the laws of our state. We ask that, if needed, education on updates in the laws be sought so this situation can be rectified. We ask that the current guidelines of fines and jail, if applicable, be followed. We expect more from the civil servants and elected officials in our county.
Respectfully, Tioga County Residents and others who support this request.
