TINY TOWNSHIP Oppose the Construction of a New Municipal Administration Building
TINY TOWNSHIP Oppose the Construction of a New Municipal Administration Building
The Issue
NOTE: You must be a property owner in Tiny Township. You do NOT have donate money to sign.
We are concerned citizens, deeply troubled by the proposed construction of a new municipal administration building in our community. This project is not only fiscally irresponsible, but it also lacks sufficient community involvement.
Our local government has failed to provide clear and convincing evidence that this new building is necessary or financially viable. The cost of such an undertaking could be astronomical and would likely lead to increased taxes for residents. Furthermore, there has been minimal effort made to involve the community in these decisions which will directly impact us all.
The lack of transparency and public consultation is alarming. It's essential that we have input into major projects like this one that will affect our daily lives and financial futures.
We must demand better from our elected officials. We need them to prioritize fiscal responsibility over unnecessary spending, and value public opinion over closed-door decision making.
Let's stand together as a united community against this proposed construction project. Please sign this petition urging our local government to reconsider their plans for a new municipal administration building.
Tiny Township raised property taxes by 10.82% in 2023. They have passed
another unprecedented increase of 8.19% for 2024 with additional expense
coming forward in the next few months. There was no need to pass the
budget quickly. There was truly little cutting and additional projects added.
This is 19.10% over 2 years. If projections continue in the years 2023-2027,
this Mayor and Council are planning a total increase of 38.80 % in property
taxes over 5 years!
2023 10.82 (actual) 10.82
2024 8.19 (passed) 19.90
2025* 5.0 (estimated) 25.89
2026 5.0 (estimated) 32.19
2027 5.0 (estimated) 38.80
*Construction is scheduled to start in 2025 for New Administration Building.
We, the undersigned, do not agree to this proposed increase in property
taxes for 2024. ” We do not agree to the construction of an Administration Building at a new location.
There are vast differences between the things we need and those we
would like to have. We all want the best things. That does not mean we can have them or more importantly, that we can have them all at once.
Yet this is the prevailing attitude of the Mayor and Council.
The Town is spending millions for salary increases, and new administrative office staff. There is lack of fiscal restraint and prudence.
Wanting everything right now despite the extravagant costs and
without regard for the financial burden it will put on Tiny Township
taxpayers. Never asking taxpayers what they are willing to sacrifice. We are already so overtaxed at every level.
The new administrative building starts at $400,000 for architectural design this year.
When the construction begins, what is the estimated cost?
We currently have significant underfunded assets, and exorbitant expenses... Why then is this Mayor and
Council adding such massive future debt to already overburdened
taxpayers?
Township employees are well paid with strong pensions and good benefits.
The Mayor and Council claim salaries are not competitive with other
municipalities. That is not true. As per the Ontario Public Sector Salary
Disclosure list, in 2022 there were fourteen employees working for the
Township who earned over 100K. The average salary in Ontario is only
56K.
This Mayor and Council and our CAO are becoming
disconnected from real taxpayers. The Mayor's office states they
understand that taxpayers are facing hardships. But the reality is that they
do not understand or listen. If they were, they would not
be increasing budgets for administrative staff, hiring 11 new full-time staff
when the population has not skyrocketed in the past 11 months. Purchasing new cars for admin staff. Setting unrealistic goals. Overextending taxpayers with back-to-back increases while they are trying to adjust to interest rates Canadians have not seen in 22 years and while experiencing the burden trying to recover from Covid.
Council is on the path to increase our property taxes by 38.80% over 5 years!
This petition is to allow those signing to have a say regarding this capital project called New Administration Building.
