Gisela Martinez started this petition to Timothy White and

AB-1460

It is a bill that would

- Require to take ethnic studies for California State University: all campuses
-Counts towards an undergraduate graduation requirement
-Minimum of one 3-unit course in ethnic studies
-Bill commencing with 2020-2021 academic year

Timothy White, Chancellor of the CSU system, instead of supporting the bill implicates requirements that hurt people of color and low-income communities.  Requiring students to take ethnic classes can help further the knowledge of one’s thoughts about ethnicities and different cultures. Students of these ethnicities can also take classes about their own ethnicity or other and by doing so, it can help them get a better understanding of their cultures and their ancestors. it brings people together and provides a safe space for everyone. It also establishes to learn about the obstacles and adversity for those going through the same problems that most people will overlook. Ethnic Studies unites and educates not only about yourself, but about others.
