Block Bill HB1280/SB1428 in Tennessee

The Issue

Passing HB1280/SB1428 will negatively impact the health & wellbeing of all Tennesseans because it will prevent the expansion of Medicaid federally when approximately 460,000 people are currently uninsured.

For Northeast TN it presents a larger, more immediate danger in that Ballad Health already exists as a medical monopoly governed by a COPA that granted antitrust immunity from federal laws (FTC).

If this Bill passes, federal dollars from Medicaid will be given to the State of Tennessee through block grants therefore limiting the jurisdiction of the federal government. As a result, Ballad Health would have even fewer checks and balances. As a healthcare system that controls an average of 78% of all in-patient healthcare (>95% in the urban areas) and as the largest employer in the region with over 15,000 employees, Ballad Health has a tremendous amount of power over the people with very little consequences for its actions already.

Passing this bill will only increase this power and put the people at greater risk.

The people of Tennessee need to you to help them get/stay insured, have access to quality healthcare choices, and be able to afford that care.

Sign the petition and let our State Representatives & Senators know that we do NOT want this legislation passed.
