Das Problem

Timothy C. Smith Jr. (#0852475) is a 40year-old inmate at Nash Correctional Institution in North Carolina. Imagine a boy born into chaos: an abusive home where survival meant enduring beatings and neglect, followed by a decade in foster care, shuffled from place to place with no stable love or guidance. At just 17, Timothy entered prison, beginning a cycle of hardship that has defined his existence. But Timothy's story isn't one of irredeemable choices, it's a testament to human resilience, profound loss, and the quiet strength of redemption. After four brief years of freedom, Timothy fell into a manipulative relationship with a woman he met on a dating app. She lied about being pregnant with his child, drawing him into a web of deception that ended in tragedy: she murdered her friend, and Timothy, in a moment of misguided loyalty, covered for her. He returned to prison, haunted by the weight of that decision, serving time for a crime rooted in betrayal and poor judgment. The deepest wound came in 2022, while Timothy was still behind bars. His beloved young daughter, his only real child, the light of his life, was tragically killed in a car crash. Powerless to be there for her, he was denied leave to attend her funeral. In the aftermath, prison officials placed him in solitary confinement for two months, where he grieved alone and in unimaginable
pain. Today, all he has left of her are her memory and a few precious photographs are reminders of a love that will never fade. Timothy's life has been a series of stolen moments and unhealed scars. Yet, in the face of profound hardship, he has chosen growth over bitterness. He has completed the Service Dog Training Program called A.B.E.L. (At Both Ends of the Leash) This program has a partnership with North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. He completed the program receiving his Journeyman level status through the North Carolina Department of Labor. Timothy has trained multiple service dogs that now assist disabled North Carolinians, giving back to the community even from behind bars. These animals are symbols of loyalty and healing, and reflect the man he's become: patient, responsible, and committed to making amends. Timothy is now In the North Carolina field ministry Program. It is a four year bachelor's degree program in Pastoral Ministries with a minor in counseling. He will now serve the very guys he is incarcerate with. He continues to push through no matter his situation. Timothy follows Jesus and changed his life completely. So, he isn't asking for pity; he's asking for mercy. At just 40 years old, after decades lost to the system, he deserves a chance to rebuild, to honor his daughter's memory by living a life of purpose on the outside. Clemency isn't just about forgiveness; it's about recognizing that some souls, battered by fate, can still shine.
Please sign this petition to urge the Governor of North Carolina to grant Timothy C. Smith Jr. (#0852475) clemency. Let's give him the second chance he's earned, and remind the world that redemption is possible, even after the darkest storms.
