PETITION FOR ELYRIA HIGH SCHOOL CAP AND GOWNS TO STAY TRADITIONAL

The Issue

For years, Elyria High Schools graduation tradition has been a white cap and gown for females, and red for males. Recently, it has been brought to the school boards attention that around 3 out of almost 2000 students are "uncomfortable" with this tradition, therefore the school has changed it to everybody wearing a red cap and gown. The needs of few are being put above the needs of many, something that should happen in no society as it is not benefiting the majority. Many girls who attend Elyria High School have dreamed of graduating in their traditional white cap and gown, as well as many male students looking forward to their traditional red cap and gown. Many students are outraged at this quick and sloppy decision making, as it did not even include the students. We are looking to bring back the tradition by 2017 graduation, and if not that, 2018 graduation. The sooner, the better.
