We have been asking for assistance for years now regarding Vasco Park , as well as the  houses in 5/7 Justin Street  . Both of these properties are City owned in Brooklyn Cape town  .We Have asked for it to be cleaned ,the Coct has done nothing thus far. It is infested with rats and drug addicts are now using it to do their drugs.

 Every ward has its challenges. I think we can all agree on that ,but the challenges we face are very different from other wards. I have not seen a park being so neglected in ward 55 as Vasco Park.

Some of us are invested in the area and will reach out for any assistance that would help uplift the area ,as we see our property values dropping at an alarming rate. . We have been ignored for years now..

Our ward Councillor Fabian A- Sing is absent from this ward and its problems except for when he comes twice a week for Drum majorettes.  

 ,We need his urgent attention in matters that affects this community ,emotionally and mentally as we see the injustice Brooklyn has been served .

Illegal open braais on the main road for the last 3 or 4 years ? illegal trading ,prostitution, drugs etc .Where is the ward councillor ,our community is being ignored by him .Complaints fall on deaf ears . No correspondence via emails etc regarding complaints .

I will let the Brooklyn community speak for themselves as they are fed up of Councillor's non compliance to their complaints .

A key role of a councillor is to represent their ward and the people who live in it. This demands visibility, being a trusted point of contact and an effective advocate for local people.

What makes a good councillor?
The need to be effective as a ward councillor is about dealing with the people in your community, understanding the issues and concerns they face and being equipped with the skills, confidence and ability to take action and make a difference is the most important role you undertake as a councillor.

Councillors work to improve the quality of life for people within their area and make decisions about local issues. They have to decide what is in the public interest among a range of conflicting issues and views. Councillors usually represent a political party, however, they can be independent.

Do councillors have any power?
 According to Chair of Chairs at the City of Johannesburg Councillor Solly Mogase, councillors are supposed to be able to help people in their ward or get someone to help them.

Chair of Chairs is a position in a metropolitan municipality occupied by a person who all chairpersons of the committees in the municipality report to.
“Communities can bring almost every complaint to the councillor. They are supposed to know almost everything about the functioning of the three spheres of government, from local, provincial and national. Councillors are supposed to help people, if not, and then they should refer them to someone who will be able to help them,” he said.


What is the role of councillor in ward?
A councillor's primary role is to represent their ward or division and the people who live in it. 

Have we received any of the above assistance for our Councillor ? my answer would be no . He needs to be held accountable and responsible for failing Brooklyn on important issues . Let us stand together and call on him to show this community that he has not failed us and salvage what he has done to Brooklyn by failing to implement City Bylaw's which is at his disposal .

If Councillor cannot deliver we ask that he steps down and let someone else with more passion ,compassion ,dedication and perseverance do a better job .
