I would like to tell you a story, OK, not actually a story because it really happened.  It was like a chapter out of “1984”. Have you ever read that book? I read it years ago when I was about 18 or 19 years old and it has never left me. The fear those people lived with, the censorship, and the lack of information from people they trusted. I was so glad my world would never be like that, which brings me to what happened last Thursday night as I was watching one of my favorite shows, The Young Turks (TYT) on the Current  TV Channel on TWC here in Maine. I love it when Cenk says, “It’s go time!” I knew I was going to receive good info about the world’s news, especially, about here in the US. I don’t always agree with him, but that’s OK, ‘cause it gives me the chance to view and appreciate another point of view. And I love seeing his numbers and charts because he always backs them up and gives the sources. As usual, it was a good show, and then Viewpoint started with former Governor Spitzer, and I dozed off. (No reflection on Mr. Spitzer’s reporting), just for a 64 year old grandmother from Maine, I was tired. But then I woke up a few minutes later, and the first thing I realized was the quiet and noticed there was a message up on the TV screen pictured above. So I went on-line to TWC to see if I could figure what was going on. That was so rude of them to cancel one of my favorite channels with no warning!! Let alone that to me it smacked of censorship!!! Well, needless to say, I spent about half an hour in a chat room getting nowhere and no answer, in fact, it ended up being quite comical. It was number 28 in line and I don’t know how many were left behind me. (I saved the email). But back to my point, why do this? What right did they have to censor my viewing? Thus this petition and my asking you to sign it. I know I could probably find the channel and shows somewhere on-line, but I like to snuggle on the couch and revel in my nearly discovered image of myself as being a “Progressive Democrat” which TWC is not nourishing, to say the least.

Our media is controlled by fewer and fewer companies and we need all the options we can obtain in order for us to receive fairer news coverage and/or opinions. What are they afraid of? Al Jazeera bought the Current Channel from our former Vice President Al Gore, who has created a channel with excellent shows of a high quality. So if you feel like me, that the dropping of this channel by TWC is not right and wish to sign this petition, I would be honored to have your name added. Thank you.
