Petition updateTime to phase out transrectal biopsies for prostate cancerThanks. Have your friends sign. We're making a difference.

I am in touch with some high-level people in the American Urological Association sphere.

A member of a guideline committee (very confidential) told me the committee is in discussions to change guidelines to back off from transrectal procedures that result in the deaths of an estimated 2,000 men a year in the US from transrectal biopsies. That's about five a day.

No man should die from a semi-elective medical procedure.

Also, another source told me:  AUA's education office is "rapidly pushing forward with courses, videos, “how-to” sessions so I think the tide has turned with recognition that the transperineal approach must be implemented.
Your efforts are being realized."

So encourage your friends to sign.
