Is it time for New Zealand to declare Russian elections as an unlawful sham and denounce Putin a self-declared illegitimate president?

Russia’s elections are clearly a sham because Russians only have one “dictator” to vote for. During the 2024 Russian elections, Putin did not engage in any electioneering or participate in public debates to discuss new government plans or policies. His excuse was that he was too busy running the country. However, if all political opponents are eliminated or imprisoned first, that is obviously not necessary. Many votes are obtained through coercion, with guns pointed at voters or threats made by local officials to ensure people vote for “dictator” and murderer Putin. What is happening right now in Russia can only be compared to the rise of Hitler in Nazi Germany in 1933.

The only real opposition leader, Alexey Navalny, was killed by Putin just before the elections to prevent any challenge to the dictator. Vladimir Kara-Murza and Boris Nemtsov have also been imprisoned or killed, and many Russians who oppose Putin are now living in exile.

 

 

There is simply nothing democratic about these elections and the continued efforts by the Russian regime masquerading to sell them as legitimate elections are frankly ridiculous. We are tired of this ongoing facade and farce. Russia is now a predator and a global pariah state run by murderers and gangsters that can no longer be trusted. From now on, Putin must only be addressed as the self-declared or illegitimate President of Russia by New Zealand and the global community because the Russian constitution was changed illegally in 2020 to give Putin two more illegal terms in office! The international community including New Zealand must call out Russia and declare these elections for what they really are, just another endless lie!

We urge the New Zealand Government to denounce Russia’s election as a sham and declare Putin an illegitimate president. Putin should not be recognised as the president of Russia because these elections are clearly rigged and Putin is a war criminal and murderer wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Den Haag to investigate, charge and trial Putin with the gravest crimes of murder, genocide, child abduction, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression. 

 

 

History shows that appeasing and tolerating autocratic dictators does not work; they only become more emboldened by doing so. By declaring autocratic leaders as illegitimate, real change can be initiated. Now is the time to label the Russian elections as a sham and declare Putin not as the president of Russia, but as a murderer and war criminal
