Time For Jamil Javini, MAGA's man in the Canadian Parliament, to Go
The Issue
Jamil Jivani (Bowmanville—Oshawa North Conservative MP) has become a liability to Canadian sovereignty, Conservative Party unity, and responsible opposition. His close personal ties to U.S. Vice President JD Vance, repeated independent freelancing in Washington, and public comments that downplay Canadian concerns about U.S. pressure make him MAGA’s most visible ally in Ottawa. It is time for the Conservative Party to remove him from caucus and for Canadians to demand he step down as MP.
He is JD Vance’s longtime friend first, Canadian MP second
Jivani and Vance met at Yale Law School and became close friends. Jivani read a Bible passage at Vance’s wedding and has described him as a “brother.” They have stayed in touch through family connections and a long-running fantasy football league.
This is not a distant acquaintance. Jivani has repeatedly travelled to Washington on his own initiative, meeting Vance, President Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other administration officials. He has offered himself as an unofficial channel to Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying he could “help” restart trade talks because of his access. Vance has publicly praised him as a “pretty effective advocate” in trade talks while dismissing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre as “this guy Pierre Poilievre or something” and a “non-entity.”
In a moment when many Canadians view Trump-era rhetoric (including “51st state” talk) and tariffs as threats to sovereignty, an MP whose closest high-level relationship is with the U.S. Vice President creates an obvious conflict of loyalty.
He has dismissed legitimate Canadian anger as an “anti-American hissy fit”
After one Washington trip, Jivani told Breitbart that Canadians were “shooting ourselves in the foot if we continue this anti-America hissy fit.” He conveyed a message from Trump: “Tell the Canadians I love them.” Pierre Poilievre publicly distanced the party from the comments, stating that Canadians are “legitimately upset by the unjustifiable tariffs and the comments that the president has made” and that “He speaks for himself, and I speak for the party.”
This is not a one-off. Jivani has positioned Canadian pushback as emotional overreaction rather than a defence of national interest. That framing aligns more with MAGA talking points than with the concerns of workers in his own auto-heavy riding or with the broader Canadian public.
He is freelancing against party discipline
Jivani has no official critic portfolio. He has run his own “Restore the North” campus tour modelled on Charlie Kirk’s events, hosted events denouncing “Liberal racism” and DEI, and launched personal initiatives that look like brand-building. Conservative strategists have said his Washington trips create “clap back” that weakens Poilievre and the party. One former adviser noted that every time Jivani “flaps his wings in Washington, there’s usually some clap back he creates in Canada.”
He has also publicly criticized Ontario Premier Doug Ford (his old boss) as lacking ideology and focused only on staying in power. This pattern of going his own way — independent diplomacy, personal tours, pointed public comments — shows he is not operating as a team player in a parliamentary party that requires caucus discipline.
Why this matters now
Canada is dealing with strained U.S. relations, trade uncertainty, and questions about diplomatic conduct (see the parallel petition on Ambassador Pete Hoekstra). Having a Conservative MP widely viewed as MAGA’s man in Parliament undermines the party’s ability to present a coherent, Canada-first opposition. It also risks alienating voters who want politicians who put Canadian interests first rather than personal U.S. connections.
Jivani’s actions have already forced his own leader to publicly separate the party from his words. That is not sustainable.
We call on:
The Conservative Party of Canada to remove Jamil Jivani from caucus.
Jamil Jivani to resign his seat as MP for Bowmanville—Oshawa North.
Canadians who believe Members of Parliament should represent Canada first to sign this petition.
