All councils should be aiming for 30% tree canopy coverage

All councils should be aiming for 30% tree canopy coverage as recommended by Dr Greg Moore of Melbourne University When we cut down trees we lose up to 50 species from bugs and insects through to birds and animals.
We have to stop this trend
Sadly today a friend remarked that her son wanted to go back to the sapling he planted 13 months ago only to find it hasn't survived this weekend . In fact not one of the 2300 saplings had survived!!!
Who is responsible forlookuing after these saplings and who paid for the overhead costs when 13 months later we have nothiong to show for it ?

One Tree per Child is an international initiative established by the co-founders of National Tree Day (Jon Dee and Olivia Newton John) which aims to get every child to plant at least one tree before they leave school.
Since One Tree Per Child was launched, participating Australian councils and community groups have planted trees and shrubs in the hundreds of thousands.
Council delivered the program in 2023, providing opportunities for Grade 3 students within Greater Dandenong to plant 1000 new trees in 2023.
There are many benefits to being involved in One Tree per Child for students, the community and the environment including:
learning how trees benefit local biodiversity
giving children the opportunity to undertake their first act of community volunteering
community involvement and ownership of a project that restores bushland and vegetation
supporting the development of food and habitat for many bird and animal species that are under pressure due to environmental degradation
physical and mental wellbeing benefits of being outdoors and in nature.
