I am hoping to make sexual assault against the vulnerable a more serious crime in MN.

I am hoping to make sexual assault against the vulnerable a more serious crime in MN.
The Issue
Let me start by stating that I am looking to eliminate the potential for felony crime reduction to a misdemeanor when it comes to the sexual assault of vulnerable adults, as about 3/4 of cases end with that outcome. And that is disturbing. As I read the news paper this morning I came across an article. The article states that a man in St. Cloud sexually assaulted a vulnerable adult, and is being charged with a gross misdemeanor. I believe this is completely undermining the seriousness of this offense, and believe that the state of Minnesota should categorize the stated offense as a felony without potential for felony reduction to a misdemeanor, as 3/4 of the cases usually end up with that outcome. I am pushing for no felony reduction to a misdemeanor with this crime. On the same page as that article, a women caught stealing opioids from mayo health clinic received a felony for her offense. Her offense did not involve a human being and it is more harsh of a crime? I disagree with this standpoint completely and something must change, now. Her offense was serious and does deserve a felony, but to say the man who sexually assaulted a vulnerable adult deserves only a misdemeanor compared to her crime, is absolute nonsense. Please help me reach my goal and sign this petition. It means a lot to me. Thankyou.
