On Monday, May 25, 2020, an unarmed George Floyd was MURDERED ON VIDEO by former Minneapolis Police Department officer Derek Chauvin as officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng assisted him. While Chauvin kneels on Floyd's neck for nearly NINE MINUTES STRAIGHT, Kueng and Lane hold down his body and legs, rendering him immobile and left to cry out his final words, "I CAN'T BREATHE." Officer Tou Thao is also seen in the video standing by, watching as the gruesome event unfolds.

Although Derek Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder and his three accomplices with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, the story doesn't end there.

While Lane was held in Hennepin County Jail from June 3, 2020 to June 10, 2020, his family set up a crowdfunding website to solicit donations and post bail.

Yesterday, he was released on a $750,000 bond and I am horrified and disgusted to know we live in a world where a white man charged with aiding in the murder of a black man gets to roam free while George Floyd was given a death sentence for the color of his skin.

If he can post bail for 3/4 of $1 million dollars in 7 days, who is to say he has no means to flee the country? With the severity of the case and the charges pressed against him, Thomas Lane is a flight risk and needs to be held accountable for the crimes he has committed by being taken back into custody.

Please sign and share this petition on social media to get the attention of Governor Tim Walz, Mayor Jacob Frey, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.

Justice is long overdue and this is just the first step in the right direction.
