It is estimated that more than 15 million animals worldwide are used in laboratory experiments every year, but in reality that number is not very accurate. In the U.S. alone, 90% of animals used in laboratories are excluded from official statistics, meaning that "official" number is very underestimated.

Animal testing is not as accurate as you may think. Drugs such as Vioxx were proven to be completely safe and effective in animals, but killed over 60,000 humans. Animal testing is a not only a cruel and inhumane practice that violates animal rights, but also proves itself to be ineffective time and time again. Animals and humans differ considerably with regard to anatomy, physiology and metabolism. Animal testing is outdated and fundamentally flawed, with that being said there are also many sophisticated alternatives to testing on animals.

The Animal Welfare Act must be expanded to protect all species of animals. The Act must bring an end to animal testing as a whole, making it completely illegal for researchers, cosmetic companies and pharmaceutical brands to test on any specie of animal.
