Extermination of an entire breed of dog based solely on breed alone and nothing else is morally and ethically wrong. An animal shelter should first and foremost be an entity that looks out for the welfare of EVERY animal that enters its facility. Breed specific legislation was dropped by the State of Ohio in 2012 (HB 14). They ruled the pit bull should no longer be deemed a vicious breed but instead defined vicious to mean ANY dog that has attacked or killed a human or another animal. The Licking County Animal Shelter needs to follow this same rule.They have made great strides in attaining a very favorable adoption rate in Central Ohio. However those adoptions need to include any pit bull that has a successful evaluation just like like any other breed Your jobs as county commissioners may depend on it. Many innocent lives are depending on it. Do the right thing and end mandatory euthanasia of every pit bull after 3 days in the shelter. Allow them to be adopted. Allow rescue organizations access to every pit bull.
