Boycott Body-Shaming App Tiktok

Boycott Body-Shaming App Tiktok

The Issue

The deliberate body-shaming and video removal by Tiktok MUST stop. It's making people mad. It's making me livid. I and my close friend were directly affected by this nonsense just yesterday.

Backstory and points to remember:
-- 15 year old Charli D'Amelio and 19 year old Addison Rae, both massively famous Tiktok users, recently posted videos of them dancing to dance trend music with their friends on a beach vacation.
-- The group was clad in tiny bikinis. All fit young women and famous users.
-- I went to the beach yesterday with my best friend whom I have not seen since this summer (we moved closer to her area and we decided to get together).
-- My friend, my sister, and I were all wearing bikinis. My sister is slim and tall, I am short and muscular, and my friend is mid-height and not the same body type as my sister or Charli D'Amelio, but an absolutely beautiful girl inside and out.
-- You all know about Lizzo, the pop star, and her body positivity. She's had videos of her in a bathing suit taken down due to "violation of community guidelines," while these young teen girls can dance to borderline stripper music in tiny bikinis and be praised for it.
-- I made a video with my friend and my sister at the beach, as we were waiting on something and had nothing to do. Just had a bit of fun and did a little dance trend.

**NOTE THAT TIKTOK COMMUNITY GUIDELINES HAVE NOTHING ABOUT MINORS IN BATHING SUITS POSTING VIDEOS, ONLY RULES AGAINST CHILD AND GENERAL PORNOGRAPHY**

So, we make this video, and it was a lot of fun. My friend was comfortable with me posting said video. We were excited to finally be together and nothing was wrong, completely good spirits and positivity.

Now, on my Tiktoks, I definitely get likes. Not tons, but it was noticeable when no notifications were coming up saying "xyz user liked your video". So, in the evening, I went on the app to discover my video had been taken down. Confused, I looked at the reason why. All it said was that I had "violated community guidelines". I looked thoroughly at the guidelines attached, and nothing in there did I violate whatsoever.

I wrote a complaint, demanding my video be put back up. Today (my birthday) I got a notice back that it had been reviewed and would continue to stay down due to the alleged violation. I am absolutely livid. Not only was my friend body-shamed, but every girl who looks like her will not be able to be comfortable showing their bodies confidently on the app.

And I am not pushing people to make videos in bathing suits, or telling them to walk around naked or anything, I'm saying that all I wanted was to have a good time and make a little video with my friend.

Now, I'm trying to delete my whole account, but I can't because it requires phone verification and the number I used for that is no longer in use, so I can't verify it and therefore delete my account. I will be writing a long and detailed email to Tiktok and might be creating a petition to boycott this POS body-shaming app.
