Every day in Boston, drivers illegally block bike lanes — and every day, cyclists are forced into traffic, risking injury or worse. These aren't rare incidents. They're constant. And the city is doing next to nothing to stop it.

From Seaport to Somerville, delivery vans, Ubers, and personal vehicles routinely park in protected lanes, ignoring signs, flex posts, and the safety of every person on two wheels. It’s not just inconsiderate — it’s dangerous. And Boston cyclists are tired of dodging parked cars just to stay alive.

Massachusetts law already prohibits stopping or standing in a bike lane. But laws don’t matter if they’re never enforced. Right now, there’s no meaningful consequence for endangering cyclists — and the city’s inaction makes that danger feel routine.

We’re calling on the City of Boston and the Boston Transportation Department to start immediately and consistently ticketing drivers who block bike lanes. 

When drivers face no consequences, people get hurt. Let’s stop pretending bike lanes are suggestions and start protecting the people who rely on them.
