Thurrock Residents Please Support Key Workers Pay & Terms & Conditions
Why this petition matters
Thurrock refuse collectors are going to strike because of a vicious attack on their pay and terms and conditions.
A waste collector earns a low wage by today’s standards whilst Directors and Managers earn unbelievable salaries with some earning more than the Prime Minister, you can find their salaries here
These key workers, the dustmen and women, gardeners, street cleansers, highways maintenance staff, the care staff, the careline staff who answer the phones 24/7/365 to the vulnerable elderly, are the ones affected by these brutal cuts.
These workers worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic they put themselves, their families their loved ones at risk. The dustmen and women were emptying thousands of potentially contaminated bins. Up until October 2020 without masks - as they were not supplied.
Thurrock Council are claiming their terms and conditions and pay are outdated. Some of these workers have young families, some are the sole breadwinner, some have a mortgage which they will struggle to pay if Thurrock Council go ahead with the pay cuts.
Brent Council paid every key worker £500 as a thank you for working through the pandemic.
These workers at Thurrock are NOT asking for a pay rise or bonus they just want a fair days pay
None of these workers want to go on strike it is the very last resort.
Please support these hard-working key workers by signing this petition.
