Threat Abatement Plan - save the stray cats!

The issue

What is the threat abatement plan ?

The proposed killing of 2 million cats Australia wide through trapping + killing, national classification of cats as pest species and classification of cats as either feral or domestic.

Traps include cages, leg traps, shooting and poison (1088/ PAPP) in rural and urban areas.

Cats will either be classified as domestic OR feral (ALL cats that are unowned or cared for by humans)

Classifying cats across Australia as “pests” which has legal implications for rescue. Ie it is illegal to own a pest animal. It is illegal to bring into, keep, sell or release test animals in Australia.

Why is this important?

Methods are inhumane
Rescuing + rehoming stray cats will likely become illegal and have legal implications for rescues
Stray cats will not be able to be re homed

What can you do?

We have until the 11th December 2023
