This petition has been created to show support for the passage of a Resolution for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity of all Citizens. In light of recent and historical events it is essential for the Thousand Oaks community to urge its city council to put this resolution into the record. This action will send a message that we do not condone oppression stemming from systemic racism and we actively work to dismantle white supremacy. Below is the aforementioned Resolution proposed by 805Resistance.Org. Please sign this petition to show you support the passing of the resolution by Thousand City Council.

A RESOLUTION FOR DIVERSITY, INCLUSION AND EQUITY OF ALL CITIZENS

Resolution of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity. Declaring and committing to eliminating institutional and systemic racism in our community.   To plead to our founding fathers’ beliefs of the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by God, Creator, with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

WHEREAS Thousand Oaks, CA long celebrated progressive growth and the commitment to be a safe place to live with strong values to support its residents,

WHEREAS Thousand Oaks, CA is known as the safest city in the United States.  And due to recent national events, that have shed light on the deeper issue of systematic racism. These acts which have manifested themselves and plagued America for over centuries; and

WHEREAS we the community of Thousand Oaks have come together to reclaim our community and as a nation, as a bipartisan communal community who share a common goal for advocacy, community strength, and activism: and

WHEREAS we the community of Thousand Oaks reject the systemic racisms that divided our community and results in disparate consequences for the black, the indigenous, and people of color, not just in criminal justice, but also in the health care, education, housing, and public safety system: and

WHEREAS the impact of institutional and systematic racism further inhibits the black, the indigenous, and people of color socioeconomic deprivation; and

WHEREAS we are Thousand Oaks proud, have entered a new phase of realm and growth in our community to work together, to develop a pathway of diversity, inclusion, and equity for all citizens: and

WHEREAS the community of Thousand Oaks is committed to fulfilling the promise of a just and equitable society.  We must take the lead to ensure the black, the brown, the indigenous, and people of color valued, safe, and equal members of society; and

WHEREAS we call for the City of Thousand Oaks and the City Council of Thousand Oaks to lead by example and take a stand for diversity, inclusion, and equity to support and commitment to prioritize a plan to develop equitable treatment of all people, open and continue the dialogue with community stakeholders and community members to eliminate racism; and

WHEREAS we the 805 Resistance Team request the City of Thousand Oaks to pledge and commitment to work proactively to be a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community, to promotes constitutional protection and human equitable rights to commit efforts that shall include:

§  The recognition of passing this resolution as a statement that acknowledges the existence of systemic racism and opposes it.

§  Efforts to create an inclusion committee and mandate participation in anti-racist education training in city officers, employees, and staff.

§  To develop diversity, inclusion, and equality programs to expand the understanding of cultural differences and the impacts of discrimination, systemic practices, and policies that affect individuals in the workplace and focus on their emotional consciousness. 

§  Develop a plan to meet the needs and inequalities in the areas of housing, public safety, and in all facets of the healthcare system, 

§  Creation and participation of open dialogues between the City, VCSO, and citizens to maintain awareness of potential areas of consequence to marginalized and oppressed populations in decision making of policy and planning

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ALSO RESOLVED, we encourage and invite the City of Thousand Oaks to work together through peaceful exchange and meaningful dialogue to enact change and move forward to achieve a just, equitable, and inclusive community for All.

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the 805 Resistance Team PLEDGE to whole heartily support the efforts of the City of Thousand Oaks to work to improve disparities in our community and to address institutional and systemic racism in our community.
