There used to be a tree in the Savin Hill tennis courts, but it got old and died and the Parks Department removed it. Years have passed and it has not been replaced. I've been in contact with the Parks Dept. over these years, knowing it does take time to get a tree.
However, this year is the first I've heard that they outrightly refuse to replace the tree. The courts will be redone this year and they plan to pave right over the dirt patch where the tree was.
In an email from Gregory Mosman, MCA, City Arborist/Tree Warden of Boston Parks & Recreation he wrote: "We have no plans to plant within the tennis court. The court was designed around an existing tree which is why it was there in the first place. When the courts are redone the dirt patch will be paved over."
As you can see, the tree was there first. Shouldn't it take precedence? Multiple community members have called asking for its replacement. The tree would give nice shade for playing tennis under and is in keeping with the design of the park, which is lined with trees all around the edge. It's beautiful. Let's keep it that way. There is no reason why it shouldn't be replaced. Thank you.
