Interested in a new sport for the town of Hamden, CT?

Wrestling CAN be that sport!

Wrestling is the sixth most pupular sport at the High School level in the United States in total participation and eighth most popular in total number of schools.

Wrestling is a sport that relates to many different backgrounds and walks of life.  Wrestling is one of the only sports that welcome participants of all shapes and sizes.  You can be the smallest athlete or the largest.  High School Wrestling has fourteen weight-classes ranging from 106lbs to 285lbs.  Wrestling also does not require "try-Outs" like other sports, if you step on the squad you will wrestle.  The community in Hamden would greatly benefit from wrestling being offered as Hamden has a very diverse ethnic community. 

Wrestling is also open to female athletes as well (though listed solely as a boy’s sport).  82 girls participated in wrestling in the state last  season.

Wrestling would offer those athletes not able to participate in offered winter sports for whatever reason an opportunity to participate in another sport.  This would give them an activity to occupy their free time and keep them active after school.  It would keep many of these students out of trouble as well by occupying their time with discipline, self-control, personal accomplishments and pride along with increased exercise and conditioning.

Hamden High School is one of only three Class LL Football schools in the state of CT without a wrestling team. There are 954 male students attending Hamden High and ONLY 4 winter sports offered. Let's create a new opportunity for those students.

Wrestling is the world's oldest sport, let's add it to Hamden High School Athletics.
