This election call for leaders who protect our Reef

The issue

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most magnificent places on Earth – home to a diversity of fish, coral, turtles, whales, dolphins, sharks and rays.

But right now, climate change, fuelled by coal pollution is heating our oceans and killing our Reef.

Over 93 per cent of the Reef is suffering the worst coral bleaching on record. And scientists say half may never recover.

Yet our federal government continues to slash clean energy and approve new coal mines, like Adani’s giant Carmichael mine.

If it goes ahead, the mine's coal will pump billions of tonnes of pollution into the air and irreversibly damage our Reef.

This election, your voice is more powerful than ever. Whether our Reef survives depends on the actions of our next government.

Will they listen to the big polluters who are destroying our reefs? Or will they listen to the people and support clean energy so the reef can thrive?

We are the custodians of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, we must do everything we can to protect it.

We’re asking Australians across the country to sign a pledge to vote for a candidate who will support clean energy, cut pollution, and protect our reefs, rivers, forests, and wildlife.

If election candidates hear thousands of voices now, they’ll know they must stand strong for our Reef to win your vote.

With local volunteers, the Australian Conservation Foundation will deliver the pledges to election candidates. We’ll report back to you on their positions so you know where they stand on the issues that count.

Join our call for a brighter future. Sign the pledge now to make your vote count for our Reef.
