The SGA initiative to have a Chick-Fil-A on-campus fails to see how this would further marginalize the LGBTQ+ community at Pepperdine, since Chick-Fil-A has historically and currently supports anti-LGBTQ+ organizations. It is the view of LGBTQ+ activists and many LGBTQ+ students on-campus that Chick-Fil-A discriminates against Queer people by:

1. Refusing to include explicit protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in its employment non-discrimination policy

2. Donating to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations. "The company also donated $6,000 to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, a Christian residential home that teaches that same-sex marriage is "rage against Jesus Christ and His values."

3. They have donated to organizations that have practiced conversion therapy, such as Exodus International, and while organizations like Exodus International have apologized for imposing years of trauma on people, Chick-Fil-A has never apologized for it. Conversion therapy attempts to change an individual's sexual orientation, and according to the Human Rights Campaign, conversion therapy, "Can lead to depression, anxiety, drug use, homelessness, and suicide."

Because Chick-Fil-A has undermined the rights of LGBTQ+ people, SGA should NOT want to promote an even bigger presence of Chick-Fil-A on-campus. Rather, SGA should advocate another food option on-campus.

Lastly, Pepperdine affirms, "That the student (including LGBTQ+ students), as a person of infinite dignity, is the heart of the educational enterprise." Having Chick-Fil-A on-campus would negatively impact the quality of life of many LGBTQ+ students, and this goes against the mission of the school.
