You signed the online petition and we cannot thank you enough. The appeal for this heroic family's refugee case has been submitted to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Now, please take 15 minutes of your time to join our congressional outreach campaign to help this family that is grave danger because of their loyalty to America. Your voice could literally save their lives. We have the letter already written. All you need to do is send. Attached is a link that will provide you with the websites of your three Members of Congress. Please contact your Representative and Senators about this issue through a message on their website, e-mail, or mailed letter. The letter can be found below. All you need to do is fill in your appropriate contact information and submit. Thank you so much for the support you have provided this family. Letter to send: [Date] [The Honorable (First Name, Last Name) United States House of Representatives/United State Senate Office Address City, State, Zip] Subject: Save Iraqi Family Under Immediate Threat for Working with U.S. Troops Dear Representative/Senator ______________: My name is [ ]. I As your constituent, I am asking for your assistance in helping an Iraqi family who is stuck in Baghdad and in grave danger because of their affiliation with the U.S. military. This family has been a target for extremists for almost ten years, beginning in 2007 when a member of the family serving as an interpreter for the U.S. Marine Corps was killed and left in a dumpster when the militia found out about his work. But that didn’t stop two other members of the same family from serving alongside US troops; even when one was shot in the face and arm when leaving a U.S. Army base, he went back to serve after seven months in recovery. Because these interpreters risk the lives and safety of themselves and their families by working with the U.S. government, our country made them a promise: if they faced life-threatening retaliation due to their service as interpreters, they could resettle to safety as refugees in America. We made good on this promise for three members of this family, but five of them have been left behind, including a ten-year-old girl who has spent most of her life waiting on her refugee application to be processed. The family had a glimmer of hope when, after nearly seven years of vetting, they were cleared to travel to the United States last August. But in the cruelest way possible, their clearance was inexplicably revoked the day before they were supposed to travel, after they had sold everything. They were rendered homeless, crushed, and increasingly vulnerable to extremist violence. Now they are back in purgatory as their US-based legal team appeals their denial of refugee status. This family’s appeal deserves to get a fair and thorough review by a high-ranking USCIS official. We need your help in making this happen. For more specific information on the family’s case, please contact my friend Sergeant Peter Farley, who served with a member of this family during his deployment in Baghdad. Peter can be reached at peter.m.farley@gmail.com or 508-989-3527. Please do everything in your power to fight for families such as this one. It is in the best interest of our national security to protect our Iraqi and Afghan allies who have sacrificed so much for us.
