Please help to Save the Amazon Rainforest.

I'm Amélie, and I'm eight years old.  My class has been learning about the rainforests.  Ever since I heard about the Amazon rainforest being destroyed I’ve wanted to start a petition to save it.  Please read my story about Rose the Jaguar, and sign the petition. I want to find 5,000 people to sign. I don't know who I should send it to, but I think the government in Brazil.

Rose’s Story

Rose the Jaguar was lying in a quiet spot near her den when suddenly there was a great crashing of trees and a tree fell right in front of her.  Rose growled and stepped backwards.  Then there was a loud shot and a funny, flat-faced creature with only two legs stepped out of a bush.  The creature screamed and pointed to her.  Before she could move, something hit her shoulder.  Rose slumped to the ground and closed her eyes - for the last time…

What I heard at school

Every day, we use an object whose material comes from the Amazon Rainforest. This is bad, as it means that men are chopping down trees for space for things like mining and cattle farming. Because of deforestation, every day an animal loses its home. Most of the oxygen we breathe in comes from Rainforests. The Amazon Rainforest alone holds 20% of all the world's birds and 10% of all the mammals on the planet. If we don't stop cutting down the Amazon Rainforest, by 2040 half the Amazon Rainforest will be gone.
