The Issue

🚨 2 PM DEADLINE. EARLY AM EUTHANASIA. WHY?

Demand an Investigation Into Devore Animal Shelter:
San Bernardino County's Rescue Urgent List tells rescue organizations that dogs placed on the list have until 2 PM the following day to be rescued.

Yet advocates and rescue organizations are seeing dogs reportedly euthanized hours before that deadline — sometimes before the shelter's posted public opening time.

If a dog is given until 2 PM, why is that dog already dead when doors open?

Rescues need time to find fosters, arrange transportation, secure funding, coordinate veterinary care, and make the necessary arrangements to save a life.

A deadline is meaningless if the animal can be euthanized hours before it arrives.

We are also deeply concerned about reports of dogs being euthanized who were never placed on the Rescue Urgent List.
If rescues aren't told a dog is at risk, how are they supposed to save it?

We understand that shelters face overcrowding, limited resources, medical emergencies, and difficult decisions.

We are not asking the County to ignore legitimate emergencies or animals who are suffering.

We are asking for transparency, consistency, and accountability.

We demand that San Bernardino County:
- Investigate euthanasia practices at Devore Animal Shelter.
- Review every case where a dog was euthanized before its stated rescue deadline.
- Investigate dogs euthanized who were not listed as Rescue Urgent.
- Require documentation explaining why any animal was euthanized before its deadline.
- Ensure qualified rescue organizations receive a genuine opportunity to save animals.
- Provide transparency regarding euthanasia decisions, timing, and reasons.
- A deadline should mean something.
- If the County tells rescuers they have until 2 PM, they should be able to rely on that information and have a reasonable opportunity to act.

A rescue should not spend the night fighting to save a dog, only to discover that the dog was killed hours earlier — before the deadline and before the shelter even opened.

These animals cannot advocate for themselves.
