We have reached 900 signatures, and I want to share a detailed update on where my grandmother’s case stands. The detective contacted me with new information. After completing an extensive investigation that lasted months, he forwarded the full case to the State’s Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision. It has been under review there, and the update he just provided marks the first clear movement from inside that office.
He informed me that the State’s Attorney’s Office is now working on finding the right personnel to take on this case. This specific development is significant. It shows that the file has been evaluated to a point where they recognize it cannot be assigned routinely. The material has already been read, considered, and classified in a way that requires the attention of the appropriate prosecutor within their structure. When a case reaches this stage, it means the review has advanced beyond basic intake and that the office is determining who is qualified to evaluate the evidence and the criminal statutes involved.
This also explains the long stretch of silence. The charges under review are not minor. They include potential felonies and misdemeanors involving fraud, forgery, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, altering a will or codicil, theft by deception, obstruction, and perjury. These are not simple matters. They involve multiple legal areas, and the office must determine which prosecutor has the correct background to handle them. That internal matching process takes time because it requires careful routing and evaluation before any charging decision can occur.
The step of finding the right personnel only happens when the case is active, when it has already been reviewed, and when the nature of the charges demands the correct placement. It shows that the case has reached the stage where they must identify the individual with the appropriate experience to handle crimes of this seriousness. This is preparation for the next phase of the review. It is not a signal of dismissal. It is a signal of escalation.
This is the current status. The case is being prepared for assignment to the correct prosecutor inside the State’s Attorney’s Office, and that assignment is necessary before any final decision can be made. I will continue to provide updates as I receive them.
Thank you to everyone who has continued to follow this process closely and understands the weight of what is under review.
