Growing up, we learned that animals and cultures are to be respected and revered, not imitated or normalised for those who aren't a  part of the culture. A therian is a person who identifies as a non-human animal, either psychologically or spiritually. Identifying as an animal (therianthropy) trivializes human identity and appropriates sacred cultural symbols like totem animals

Respect for culture Animals and cultures, especially totem animals in Indigenous traditions, should be respected, not imitated most therians have a potential mental disorder or a trendy appropriation of meaningful symbols, often choosing "cool" or “entertaining” animals like wolves,foxes and cats Cultural significance Totems are sacred spiritual guides meant to inspire positive human traits and are often inherited within specific cultures, not chosen as an identity or hobby not to mention the cost of gear like tails,ears,paws and collars some of these products come from unethical and cruel farms that mistreat their animals 

this trend dilutes the true meaning of these symbols, causes bullying and identity confusion in youth, and trivializes what it means to be human most therains grow out of the phase because they can't stand the bullying, identity confusion and the expense of gear
