Monday 5th June marks 11 months to go until my 77 year old Dad (Grandpa Kamal) has served the full 7 years of his sentence for alleged "espionage". Will Iran free him early? Will Dad survive Evin prison? There are still no details provided of the various medical tests that were performed a few months ago when Dad was taken to hospital five separate times. On Wednesday 30th May, Dad was taken to the Legal Medical Organisation to meet six doctors. This may sound promising, but last 6th December, Dad was told by the same organisation that he would be let out very soon for eye operations. This time, the doctors refused to discuss Dad's cataracts or explain why he has not yet been given his operations. Instead, they spent the whole meeting discussing the risk of prostate cancer. But as far as we know, cancer tests have still not been performed! Dad got to see his lawyer again Saturday 3rd June, for the first time in ages. But there have still been no replies to the 50+ applications for Dad’s release – he’s been eligible for release each day for the last 1,250 days. For UK voters, our thoughts turn to the general election this Thursday 8th June: • Three UK governments have so far failed to convince Iran to free Dad, starting with the coalition government of Cameron/Clegg/Hague. Will the new 2017 government fare any better? • If you live in the UK, please be ready in the days after the election to write to/email your new/re-elected MP and ask them to help lobby for Dad’s freedom.
