Dear Supporters, This Saturday 27 August Grandpa Kamal will equal the world record for a European Union citizen held in an Iranian jail - 1,942 days. The record has until now been held by Roger Cooper, who was in Evin prison from December 1985 to April 1991. This Sunday Mr Cooper's record will be broken by Grandpa Kamal. We are very proud about how our dad and granddad has handled the political nonsense thrown at him while in his 70s - having never been in trouble before in his life. In particular: • 5 years without seeing family (the first 3 years no contact at all!) and getting no visitors • The first 18 months in solitary confinement without charge • the trial headed by notorious Judge Salavati with no lawyer, prosecution or stenographer present and no evidence, explanation or paperwork ever produced • the constant promises of a release "next week" or "next month" that never materialised • the deprival of medical care. Grandpa Kamal has maintained his dignity in the face of this shocking treatment that no human being should go through.
