Support NOT Enforcement (for the homeless in Windsor and the rest of the UK)
The Issue
RBWM have put together a Strategy in order to resolve the rough sleeping situation currently seen in the town.
As seen in the Guardian Article, the strategy includes training Community Wardens up to become Enforcement Officials, complete with stab vests and body cameras, in order to issue the towns most vulnerable with an on-the-spot £100 fine, if they do not engage with the support they will be offered, within a 56 day period.
The Strategy claims to focus on “Support Before Enforcement” but imposing a fine on somebody who cannot afford to pay it, will inevitably lead to court proceedings and prosecution.
The UK needs to focus on Supporting the most vulnerable and Enforcing that everybody that needs help, receives the correct level of help, not just an offering of lip service.
Let’s stop this in its tracks.
