Petition delivered to 10, Downing Street on 26th September 2017

Dear Supporter, I am writing to let you know that having reached just over 38,000 signatures, our petition to the Prime Minister, Theresa May MP, to sack her Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond MP, was finally delivered to the Prime Minister's residence at No. 10, Downing Street. Coincidentally, on arriving at the gates of Downing Street, we had to wait for the departure of Mr. Donald Tusk, the current EU President, to leave after his meeting with Mrs. May at which, as we know, he told her that despite her Florence speech, she had not made enough progress for trade talks with the EU to proceed. Obviously, as all petitions are merely handed to the duty police officer inside the door to No. 10, I have no idea what reception our petition got, and I have no idea what effect it will have. I am not naive enough to believe that it will have much influence on Mrs. May as far as her Chancellor is concerned, as it seems she is politically rather too weak to do much about him, though things may change at the Tory Party Conference in Manchester. In any event, I very much hope that, even if it doesn't bring about his sacking, our petition will send Mrs. May a clear message that there are a lot of us who are very unhappy with the way she and Mr. Hammond have been handling Brexit, that we do have a voice, and that while we have been quiet up to now and given her the benefit of the doubt, she ignores us at her peril. In closing, I would like to thank all of you once again for your amazing support in this endeavour, which brought so many of us together to make our voice heard by our political servants who, sadly, seem all too keen to act as though they were our political masters.
