Sack Philip Hammond
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, appears to be doing everything he can to frustrate the will of the British people, who decided by a clear majority to leave the European Union in the referendum of 23rd June 2016.
He has completely forfeited the trust of all of those of us who voted to leave the EU by insisting the UK remain in the Customs Union and by repeatedly undermining the UK's negotiations with the EU through his public pronouncements, thereby attempting to frustrate the full execution of the British people's democratic decision.
We therefore ask the Prime Minister, Theresa May MP, to remove Mr. Hammond as Chancellor of the Exchequer forthwith and ensure he is no longer involved in any aspect of negotiations with the EU.
We consider that if she does not do so, she will herself be forfeiting whatever trust we who voted Leave have in her own leadership and willingness to take the UK out of the EU.
- Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party
Theresa May MP
Dear Prime Minister,
Your Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Philip Hammond, has for the last several months made it quite clear, in his public utterances, that he does not believe in the kind of clean Brexit that over 17 million Britons voted for on 23rd June 2016.
Much of what he has said (and continues to say) publicly, particularly in the last few weeks, seems to be calculated to weaken the UK's hand in its negotiations with the EU, strengthen the EU negotiators' position, reduce the likelihood of the UK achieving a good deal post-Brexit, and ultimately frustrate the democratically declared will of the British people. In this he is acting against democracy and against our national interest.
Brexit represents a huge opportunity for this country. Mr. Hammond clearly views it as a predicament.
If you really wish, as you said to us upon being elected Leader of your party, to deliver the Brexit the British people voted for, you must remove Mr. Hammond from your Cabinet and replace him with someone more committed to the task ahead. There is no room in your Cabinet now for defeatists and opponents of British democracy.
Mr. Hammond must go. Our trust in you also depends on it.
