Selection is not an education for all. It is an education for the few. All children have the right to be challenged to reach their potential whatever their starting points or social class. Schools are facing enormous challenges with cut budgets, assessment changes and more - invest in our existing schools to do an even better job rather than create more problems that will widen the social divide. A return to this scheme will see only those who can afford it investing in private tutoring to pass entrance exams - that's not equality and what of the life chances and self-esteem for those 11 year olds who don't pass or don't have the opportunity to even consider it. We must not introduce this 'game playing' back into our education system that is already under huge pressures. If this happens we will see a return to a system that is archaic and not fit to prepare all of our youngsters, whatever their backgrounds, for their future in a modern Britain.
