To the person/people who know what happened to our beloved Elmo.
The day before Elmo was taken from us, our young daughter was cuddling him, she gave him a huge kiss and said, “me love Elmo so much, he’s my favourite and Elmo love me.” She is too young to remember a life without her best friend. Every time she came home from nursery, Elmo was there to greet her. Every time she wasn’t well she took comfort in having Elmo there with her. When she went for a nap, often Elmo would come and snuggle up to her. They had a bond that you only find with a young girl and her young cat. They had pretty much grown up together.
Now, two weeks later she is still crying for Elmo, still asking mummy and daddy to find Elmo and still telling everyone she sees that her cat is missing. We have nothing to tell her, we can only console her the best we can and just explain that Elmo may not be coming home. We will never have closure. It’s heartbreaking that the closure for my daughter will be when enough time has passed so that she simply forgets Elmo, forgets her best friend and the bond they shared, forgets the cat that she chose from a kitten and grew up with and forgets the gorgeous, placid boy that comforted her when she needed him.
I always thought that when it was time for us to say goodbye to Elmo we could have actually had the chance to say goodbye and give him the send off he deserved. I never in a million years thought that we would lose him forever and spend forever not knowing what happened just because someone couldn’t be bothered to scan him.
Someone knows something and I know for a fact that at least one person at Dorset Waste Partnership has lied, to cover up what I may never know. Because of that lie, in the back of my mind I will always think that our gorgeous Elmo was heartlessly disposed of like rubbish. I truly, hand on my heart, believe that a cat matching Elmo’s description was found on the day he vanished and I believe that for whatever reason that cat was thrown away onto the landfill. I will never know if that was our boy.
There was a reason why Tim at DWP called me on Thursday 13th July to tell me that a cat matching Elmo’s description was collected, dead, on Monday 10th July. There was a reason why his story changed after I said I wanted to bring him home. There was a reason he even lied about where the freezers were and then lied about telling me where the freezers were.
Please if someone knows anything, no matter how irrelevant, we need to know. He wasn’t just a cat, he was a very much loved member of our family and I need Elmo back, even if it it just to lay our boy to rest.
Please…………..
