Pledge to using 100% Sustainable, Clean Energy in the UK to help save our Coral Reefs
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
- In the last 20 years, 50% of our corals have been killed.
- 29% of the Great Barrier Reef died in 2016 alone.
- And in the next 30 years, the world's coral reefs will be no more than a graveyard.
We need to take action before it's too late; tell the UK Government they need pledge and commit to sustainable clean energy.
You can send this message by signing your support, by take sides with the earth and together we may be able to save our planet and its coral reefs.
Because We Need To Act; Fast.
Every year, coral reefs such as The Great Barrier Reef, New Caledonia Barrier Reef, and Red Sea Coral Reef are being submitted to mass coral bleaching. This is a process that causes coral reefs to transform from gardens to graveyards in a matter of months.
The ocean alone absorbs 93% of the earth's carbon dioxide, that includes vegetation, algae and coral. Corals are in fact living animals not plants, and play a huge part in our ecosystem; small plants that grow inside corals photosynthesise and take carbon dioxide that we produce to help fight global warming, but they're suffering greatly. Corals cannot survive in the oceans if they continue to rise in temperature as we are seeing every year, as just a mere few degrees is enough to sentence them to death.
Coral bleaching is primarily caused by the increased production of carbon dioxide emissions being released into the air from non-renewable dirty energy sources. This includes oil, coal, and natural gas that are used to power the UK's businesses, heat our homes and fuel our cars, but also kill our oceans.
Without coral, thousands of species of fish, sharks and turtles are expected to become homeless and vulnerable to extinction, and global warming could more than double in speed.
I don't want to see this beautiful natural phenomenon turn into nothing more than a series of textbook images for future generations to regret; do you want your children to be deprived of something so precious? If not then our corals need your support.
Sign this petition to tell the Theresa May and Parliament that we need to fight for our corals by pledging to convert to 100% sustainable clean energy.
