Cap Rents Made Unaffordable by Benefit Cuts

The Issue

Ask Theresa May's government to institute nationwide rent caps, preventing land owners charging too much and avoiding the misery caused by the benefit cuts.

The Government is going to dramatically lower the household limit on social security payments, causing a devastating surge in poverty and homelessness.

The lower cap – £23,000 in London and £20,000 outside the capital – was announced by George Osborne last year, to come into force next Monday, just weeks before Christmas.

Some families will lose more than £100 a week from the lower cap, says the Chartered Institute of Housing – plunging them into poverty and homelessness.
