Niciima Abwaan Qorane is a poet and political activist in Somalia. Qorane has been a fierce activist for Somali unity and has been a very prominent and much needed voice throughout the country as a whole. Qorane was arrested at Hargeisa International Airport Somaliland in January for exercising her right to free speech and simply stating that she believes in Somali unity. Niciima travelled from Mogadishu to Hargeisa to see her father who was very ill at the time. The government of Somaliland have labelled her call for Somali unity an act which threatens "Somali Sovereignty" and have kept her imprisoned for nearly two months now.
As the British government gives aid to Somaliland, they should speak up and come out against this act against free speech and demand the release of Niciima.
Please sign this petition if you feel that our government should speak up for Niciima Abwaan Qorane.
