Hi Everyone!! My name is JuneAnn Chadima & I am advocating for the S.299 Geriatrics Workforce Improvement Act! The purpose of this bill is to amend Title VII of the Public Health Service Act.

IF YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO IS RECEIVING LESS CARE THAN NEEDED BECAUSE THEY ARE CURRENTLY IN A HOSPITAL OR NURSING HOME, THIS BILL AFFECTS YOU! KEEP READING!!!

More specifically, this bill aims to reauthorize programs that support interprofessional geriatric education and training to develop a geriatric-capable workforce. This will improve health outcomes for a fast-growing and diverse aging American population and their families (GovTrack.us, 2019). “In 2016, 46,000,000 adults age 65 or older lived in the United States, and this number is expected to double to over 98,000,000 by 2060” (S. 299, 2019).

Currently, American citizens are aging and developing more involved medical conditions that many nursing homes, hospitals, and home care nurses and aids are unable to care for due to the lack of education. This Act will develop the next generation of geriatric scientists and innovators. In doing this it will improve health outcomes, quality of care, and the timeliness of care delivery for aging older adults. The Geriatric Workforce Improvement Act with the Geriatrics Academic Career Award will help develop a workforce capable of providing complex, high-quality care that improves health outcomes and saves valuable resources by reducing unnecessary costs for a fast-growing and diverse aging population.
