Bring Taz Home- IT'S NEVER TOO LATE! MAKE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT PETS LEGALISED IN THE UK!
The Issue
Thank you for taking the time to read this far.It honestly means more to me than I can physically explain!
I want to start off by asking...
Are you or someone you know suffering with or been effected by the many forms of invisibility!? .. "MENTAL HEALTH"
Do you know that 1 in 4 people will experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem within their lifetime.
Many others like myself require emotional support from our pets/animal companions when going through severe times of hardship.. They are our motivation, our reason, our strength, our courage and bravery to fight another day and push for success, for light and freedom from whichever demons we face!
Even criminals that have spent time in prison show long-term changes in their behavior after interacting with pets. It's a proven form of rehabilitation... many of them experiencing mutual affection for the first time.
Simply stroking , hugging, or otherwise touching a loving animal can rapidly calm and soothe you when you’re stressed or anxious. The companionship of a pet can also ease loneliness, and most dogs are a great stimulus for healthy exercise, which can substantially boost your mood and ease depression.
My reason for starting this petition is to raise awareness of the positivity and hope that our emotional support animals give to us and to also share the damage that can be done to a persons mental health by being wrongly separated from their beloved support animals!
In September 2019 during the worst time of my life, my dearly beloved and deeply missed taz was wrongly given away and rehomed!
Since being away from taz i have suffered from self harm and severe multiple anxieties and depression spouts.. I am receiving ongoing treatment and therapy for this amongst other things!
March 2020 my parents and the police got me out of my situation.
And I have since found my tazzyboy!!
I have sorted my life out and am on the route to recovery. I just wish with all my heart the admirable people whom took my taz from kennels would let him come home, I need him so badly and I know he will be missing us too!
Maybe you or someone you know suffers or is effected by mental health. Many others like myself rely on the emotional support from our pets/animal companions when suffering an anxiety attack.
Life has honestly not been the same without taz and its so so hard to cope with thoughts of him being away from me, if he's OK, how is he coping , not being here for me to love and hold him, to snuggle him and give him bones and throw with his ball, to go out for walks and see the local wildlife. For him to comfort me and ease my anxiety attacks.. to help ground me and pull me back to reality!
The weight of his body lay across my lap or sat on top of me, the touch of his soft fur, his popcorn smell, the sound and warmth of his breathe on my skin, the rhythm of his inhaling and exhaling ... His calm manner and presence saved me so many times I bare not to count!
The number of people who are affected by mental health is drastically rising.
Mental health is NOT something to ever be ashamed of nor for anyone to discriminate against. I am speaking out because I want to help everyone out there who has ever experienced a difficulty or struggle with a mental illness.
The simple presence of our esa's can also help us to alert others and ourselves of when an anxiety/panic/epileptic/diabetic attack is about to happen .... They can be trained to bring life saving medication to those who need it. Without our esa's our everyday lives become even more of a struggle.
People with mental health problems don't always find it easy to talk about it. They'll engage with various treatments and sadly even when participated in , they still may not end up being particularly successful and beneficial for the sufferer.
In my case or in many others it's a need for an emotive support animal. A precious something they can love, take care of , something that will always be there for them when they need it most, a small little creature depending solely on them!
An Emotional Support Animal is a pet that helps alleviate the symptoms of a mental or emotional disability through companionship and affection.
Sadly, unlike in America, Emotional Support Animals are still not recognised as certified assistance animals in the UK.
This means that the rules that apply to other assistance animals, such as guide dogs, do not apply to emotional support pets.
This sadly means that for people suffering all kinds of illness, be it depression , bipolar, anxiety, ANYTHING- they have no rights to have their emotional support pet with them!?
How is that fair?
At the end of the day I guess, my point is.. if for any reason a sufferer is separated from their pet/s, there mental health will have a serious impact and emotional well-being will be effected.
There are so many people just like me who rely on their pets for their mental and emotional wellbeing.
And sadly at the moment, these pets are not recognised. They cannot live in non-pet housing or travel as freely as registered assistance animals, as well as many other things that a registered assistance pet would be able to do.
Mental Health IS a disability. Just like any other. Just because you can't always see it doesn't mean it isn't there... Doesn't mean it's not real!
Esa's give us a reason to wake up each day, a purpose to keep going and never to give up no matter how hard it is , someone to comfort you in times of deep crisis and utter despair to give you a positive point of focus to distract the mind from horrific thoughts/flashbacks/blackouts.
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell. This helps them determine anxiety levels in humans. While humans have around 6 million olfactory receptors, dogs have up 300 million. This increases their ability to detect smells that humans could never smell.
For example, the fight-or-flight hormone, adrenaline, is produced when we become anxious. Dogs can smell this and then react accordingly. Dogs also use their ability to depict what our body language is saying about our current mental state. Emotional support dogs are especially attuned to the mood of their human. They can often predict a panic attack before it happens. This will help the sufferer make it through the panic attack without so much intensity. Dogs can even provide support in order to stop the panic attack from happening.
THIS PETITION HOPES TO BRING LEGAL RECOGNITION TO EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS IN THE UK , THOSE REQUIRING ONE & THE NEED TO KEEP THEM WITH THEIR TRUE ORIGINAL FAMILIES / OWNERS! ITS NEVER TO LATE!
