Black at Woodberry Call to Action

Black at Woodberry Call to Action
The Issue
To the Woodberry Community and Black at WFS Allies:
By sharing the racist and discriminatory experiences of students at Woodberry Forest School on the @blackatwfs Instagram page, we hope you learned that our system needs to change.
Woodberry is at its best when every student can genuinely feel the brotherhood that this community values. When our Black members endure racism, we are not reaching that standard. All members of this community, especially if you value our school's future, should support our call to action and hold the administration accountable for change. This is just the beginning of a more formal plan that is being created by our alumni.
Our Call to Action for the Woodberry Administration
1. A hate speech policy in the Blue Book;
2. Diversity/Inclusion and unconscious bias training for faculty and students, especially Prefects;
3. Acknowledgment of Woodberry’s history as a plantation and a requirement that students learn about the enslaved persons who lived and worked there;
4. An acknowledgment from the Board that black lives matter
Please sign the petition and help us make Woodberry a better school.
